Candle Care & Safety Tips

Candle Care & Safety Tips

  1. Trim the Wick. Always trim the wick to about ¼ inch before lighting the candle. This helps prevent the flame from getting too large and ensures an even burn.
  1. Let the Candle Burn to the Edge. On the first burn, allow the candle to melt across the entire surface. This helps prevent "tunneling," where only the center melts, wasting wax on the sides.
  1. Avoid Drafts. Keep candles away from drafts, fans, or open windows, as air movement can cause uneven burning, smoke, or flickering.
  1. Use a Candle Snuffer. Extinguish the flame using a candle snuffer instead of blowing it out to reduce smoke and prevent splashing hot wax.
  1. Don’t Burn for Too Long. Limit burning time to about no more than 4 - 5 hours. Burning a candle for too long can lead to carbon buildup on the wick, causing soot and uneven burning.
  1. Keep the Wax Pool Clean. Remove any debris, such as match heads or wick trimmings, from the wax pool to prevent flare-ups and to ensure a cleaner burn.
  1. Store Candles Properly. Store candles in a cool, dark place to avoid fading and warping. Make sure to cover them to prevent dust buildup.
  1. Use a Candle Holder. Always place candles on heat-resistant surfaces or candle holders to protect furniture and avoid accidents.
  1. Avoid Burning Candles All the Way Down. Stop burning the candle when about ½ inch of wax remains in a container. This helps prevent heat damage to the surface beneath.
  1. Reignite Candles Safely. Always let the wax fully solidify before relighting the candle to maintain the integrity of the wax and wick.

Most importantly, never leave a burning candle unattended and keep out of reach of pets and children.
